Choose Happiness
Happiness is a choice that we can all make. You don’t have to live in one of those New Jersey luxury apartments or have a million dollars to be happy. You can achieve contentment in your relationships, finances, family, and work by following a few simple guidelines.
First of all, be thankful for the people in your life. Be thankful for your spouse, your kids, your relatives, and your friends. They’re the ones who are important above all else. Material items are transient and can be acquired or replaced at any time.
Think about why you want something before you buy it. Do you want it or do you need it? If you need it, put it on a list and post it where you can read it every day. You’ll be surprised at how many times you’ll suddenly realize that you’ve acquired something on your list without even trying.
Spend time with people. Not just your family and friends, but with people who make you feel good. There are a lot of lonely people in the world; spend some time with them and it will make you feel good to make them feel good.
Smile, laugh, and hug. People used to get hugs from just about everyone–parents, teachers, and friends. But now people are afraid of appearing inappropriate by touching someone in any way, so it takes much more effort to have affectionate physical contact with other people. At least you can make the effort to smile at everyone you meet–even if they don’t smile back. You’ll feel good for doing it, and they might think about smiling at the next person they come across.
Choosing happiness is as easy as learning to enjoy simple things, spending time with those you love, and not wasting time, energy, and money on acquiring material things that you don’t really need to be content.
