Optimism Vs Pessimism

November 27, 2010

Optimism is an art. Nobody is born with it. Seldom is it inherited. You can always learn it and even unlearn it, but you can’t live without it. Because optimism is life, and life thrives on optimism. To be optimistic is not as easy as it looks. If you are pre-disposed to being optimistic, then fine. But what if you are not? How do you turn yourself into a zebra from a donkey? Sorry, this was just a joke. But becoming an optimist takes some lying to yourself, forcing you to believe you are one, until the lie becomes the truth.

Optimism is having a belief that something good will happen, just like emergency cash loans in a financial drought. Thinking positively has an impact on how we interact with people. If our interaction is positive, even the results become that. If not, then you can expect anything to happen. Optimism creates winning situations with winning thoughts. By thinking positively, you will clear your mind, like you clear your throat. Your mind will speak better and clearer.

Perennial pessimism may not be forever. Pessimism is good in some ways. It prepares the mind and body for any situation. But it only does that, and not anything more. Optimism, on the other hand, creates opportunities. Opportunities might be stepping stones to success. Therefore the word ‘optimism’ can also be read as ‘opportunities.’
Negative thinking is preparing for the drowning even when the ship is sailing safely. Optimism is looking for new lands. So what’s the best approach? A mix of both? If yes, what do you call it? Pessoptimism?!

Actually no. Peace and war cannot co-exit, and neither do optimism and pessimism. They cannot go hand in hand. They do not exist mutually. You either are an optimist or a pessimist. Because if you are in between, you might be the ship that just sailed. That’s it.
