Reflecting on My Classic Cars

November 27, 2010

Everyone has a hobby. For some, it is nothing more than sitting in front of a television, while for others, it is all about the stamps, the baseball cards or, in my case, the classic cars.

I like old cars. I like the way that you can work on them on your own, without too many expensive tools to do so. I also like the fact that I can easily slide into one of these cars knowing that there is a rich history here. Because of this passion, I have several vehicles in my collection now, all of which I am happy to show to those who want to see them.

One of the questions I most commonly am asked is about how to buy these cars. It is not a cheap process. I always provide the same types of advice for those who buy them. For example, I tell them that they need to ensure that the purchase price is worth it for the vehicle. In addition to this, I tell them about the other costs associated with maintaining the vehicle, such as having the right parts and know-how to fix them. You also need to invest in classic auto insurance (something that I have had to use in the past).

When it comes down to it, there are many things to take into consideration when owning these vehicles. As I sit and reflect on the investments I have made in them, I wonder if anyone else realizes just how enjoyable these vehicles can be. I enjoy shining them. I love to take a ride in them on a lazy afternoon. And, perhaps most importantly, I love to help other people to build a passion for these vehicles. If you do not have a hobby, you may want to consider the value of turning to a classic vehicle.
